Email Newsletter (Buttondown)

The homepage includes a subscription form that lets you receive the LWCN newsletter via email. Delivery is handled by Buttondown, LLC (Buttondown, LLC, Charlottesville, Virginia, USA), an external newsletter service provider.

How the form works technically

• The form on / posts directly to https://buttondown.com/api/emails/embed-subscribe/lwcn.
• Your email address therefore does not pass through our server (the site itself is static HTML on GitHub Pages). It is transmitted directly from your browser to Buttondown.
• We do not receive your email address on the LWCN server.

Data that Buttondown processes on our behalf

• The email address you enter.
• The timestamp of the subscription and a confirmation token (double opt-in).
• Delivery / open / click metadata as technically required to send the newsletter.

Legal basis & international transfer

• Legal basis: Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR (your consent, given by submitting the form and confirming via double opt-in).
• Buttondown is located in the USA. The transfer is based on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and, where applicable, the Standard Contractual Clauses of the EU Commission.

• We do not embed any sponsor-supplied tracking pixels, scripts, or iframes on this site. Every sponsored block is rendered by our own Hugo shortcode using static HTML only.
• We do not share your personal data with sponsors. We have no individual-level analytics to share in the first place.
• Outbound sponsor links use rel="sponsored nofollow noopener". The noopener attribute means the target page cannot access our browsing-context window object.
